Are You Neglecting These 9 Areas When Cleaning Your Home?
Even though the majority of people make some kind of effort to keep their homes as clean and tidy as possible, there are always some areas that routinely get missed. Of course, if you’ve hired a home cleaning service to come in on a regular basis, there won’t be any areas of your home that aren’t spotlessly clean, most of the time, but without professional help, it’s easy to overlook the following 9 areas:
- Ceiling fans
We don’t spend a lot of time looking up towards the ceilings in our homes, so we can be forgiven for not noticing that our ceiling fans have gotten dusty and grimy. However, if not cleaned once in a while, all of that dust and grime will start dissipating throughout your home, every time the fans are switched on.
- Beneath furniture
For most of us, what may be lurking underneath the furniture in our home, is never exposed unless we happen to move it for some reason. But that doesn’t mean we should just leave it there; ‘out of sight, out of mind’ does not apply! Your floors can become damaged over time if stains and grime aren’t cleared away from beneath furniture, and even your furniture will start to suffer.
- Behind appliances
Even the cleanest of homes will have some dirt and dust hidden behind its kitchen appliances, and to prevent mold from growing or the attraction of pests like cockroaches and mice, it’s best to move them and clean thoroughly behind them every few months or so.
- Along the tops of cabinets
Now this is somewhere that in most instances, is never visible to the eye unless you stand on a step stool to look. But, as well as dust, grease and grime from cooking can quickly accumulate here, and before you know it, you’ve got a sticky, unhygienic mess that will attract more dust and perhaps even pests.
- Inside the trash can
It might be for putting trash in, but it’s still important to keep the can itself hygienically clean and smelling fresh, and you can do this by simply wiping the interior and exterior down with a soapy sponge each time you empty it.
- Door mats
It’s a great idea to place door mats at every entrance to your home, that way you can stop some of the grime from outdoors, being tracked through into your home. But if these aren’t shaken off and washed periodically (more often during inclement weather), they could be doing more harm than good, as dirt builds up on them.
- Window tracks
You might clean your sliding windows every six months, but what about the tracks? These often harbor all manner of dirt particles and debris, and can become moldy over time, too. To avoid this, take the time to clean them every few months, and more often during periods of inclement weather. Not only will it look better, but the windows will function better, too.
- Light fixtures and lampshades
A lamplit room can look wonderfully cozy and inviting, but when not dusted and/or washed periodically, lamps can stop omitting the same quality of light, which can have a negative effect on the room as a whole.
- Shower curtain liner
Shower curtains often get overlooked when it comes to bathroom cleaning, but mold can quickly and easily build up on them, and create a hazardous environment. Many curtains can be popped in the washing machine, but where this isn’t possible, you can soak and scrub them in the tub, or outside, weather permitting.
Fortunately, if you’re a satisfied cleaning service customer, you won’t have to worry about any of these often-overlooked spaces in the home getting grubby, and can rest assured that every nook and cranny is spotlessly clean.
